Why does my format shifting show 0% progress bar while processing?

Our platform does not know the size of the streaming file you will be format shifting as the file does not originate on our platform and will not be saved on our platform. So when the first byte is sent the total size of the format shift is empty, so the browser does not know what size to expect and shows 0% even though it's receiving the format shift. This does not mean that it is not working, in fact it is, be patient.

Why you sometimes get a 0kb file?

Since we simulate a browser at your request to start the format shift and pipe all the content to you, via a configuration of ffmpeg and youtube-dl wrapped in a golang binary, or similar, all unable to bypass DRM, we have no way of checking if it was successful or not until the process is complete at which point it is too late to let you know something went wrong, we are working on a neat way to fix this, but in the meantime to mitigate this, simply retry the format shift.

Why can't I format shift some videos?

There could be any number of issues. For some content, there could be digital rights mechanisms that prohibit the content from being format shifted. Yout does not allow format shifting of such content. In other instances, some content may be corrupted or limited on a particular platform. We have a search feature that you can use to search for another publicly available video with the same title. In this instance, this generally works. However, again, if content has been protected from format shifting, you will not be able to do so.

Should I subscribe and upgrade my account to format shift a video in Yout.com?

No, you can format shift any video for free. But, the upgraded users have more features, like better quality, clipping, playlist format shifting, search format shifting, gif maker, etc. Just to be very clear, even on the upgraded account, you will not be able to format shift any content protected by digital rights mechanisms (DRM). If you can not format shift it for free, probably can not with an upgraded account.
